The Hillhouse team stands with residents of Wuhan as they collectively combat the coronavirus. We send our most heartfelt wishes for a fast recovery to patients undergoing treatment and our gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and administrators on the frontlines of this battle. Our team and our portfolio companies, including those in the healthcare community, have initiated efforts to deliver aid and information to the affected areas. Some examples of these efforts include:
- Hillhouse provided a grant of RMB 10 million through Cowell to procure urgently needed medications and protective gear to be delivered to Wuhan area hospitals. In addition, Cowell has donated 100,000 medical masks and 100,000 bottles of disinfectant to alleviate the shortage of medical supplies in the region (see photo below).

- Meituan set up a RMB 200 million fund dedicated to medical research and resources, supplies and support for frontline healthcare workers.
- TAL Education established a special RMB 100 million fund, of which RMB 20 million will be donated to the Wuhan Charity Federation and RMB 80 million will be used to provide education resources for students in Hubei and other affected areas during school suspension.
- Beigene made a RMB 1 million donation of funds and supplies to support frontline healthcare professionals. In addition, John Oyler, Beigene’s founder, and his wife, Victoria Pan, personally donated nearly RMB 1 million of medical supplies to Huanggang, Hubei to support the city and surrounding area.
- Hansoh Pharma dispatched medications and supplies and donated RMB 2 million of funds and supplies to Wuhan.
- Hanhui Pharma, together with Hisun Pharma, donated a variety of indispensable medicines for critically ill patients impacted by the coronavirus.
- Hengrui Medicine donated a total of RMB 500 million of funds and medical gear to Wuhan Charity Federation and several medical institutions.
- Wuxi Biologics and Frontage each made donations of RMB 1 million, some in the form of medical protective gear, to support Wuhan and other affected areas.
- JD Logistics opened special channels across the country to aid Wuhan in relief materials transportation. Lalamove also opened a “green channel” in Wuhan to provide free transportation services for relief materials.
- MINISO donated RMB 3 million of protective gear to Wuhan and Hubei Province. In parallel, MINISO made a promise to hold prices for protective gear constant to ensure that maximum supplies are available during the epidemic.
- Headquartered in Wuhan, LPPZ donated RMB 5 million of food supplies to various medical institutions in Wuhan including the new coronavirus hospital under construction, in addition to ensuring the health and safety of its employees.
